Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas is a city and the chilean municipality in the Magellan Strait‎ Capital city of the Magallanes and Antarctic region of Chile, it's located in the Brunswick peninsula. It has been founded on December 18, 1848.

Before the creation of the Panama canal in 1914, it was the main port for th navigation between the Atlantic ocean and the Pacific ocean , because ships would pass there to avoid the difficult Cape Horn.

Punta Arenas is the most populated and the most cosmopolitan city of the southern Patagonia. It's one of the regional chief town with the highest life quality index and own the second higher salary by inhabitants ratio of the country.
